Rockist

You know way back in the 90's when i was a 20-something i was what i would call an indie rock snob, yes i know it's hard to believe but i was, it was all Pavement and Superchunk, Dinosaur Jr and Jane's A., Afghan Whigs and Luna, my old punk and hardcore albums, the classics like the Smiths and New Order/Joy Division, The Stone Roses, the Fall, i was a right prick when it came to music and of course i had better taste than the next fucking twat sitting next to me at the bar and of course all that is debatable but see as i got older i tend not to give a shit and just like what i like and not care about what the guy sitting next to me at the bar likes (as long as he's not stuffing the Internet jukebox with shit music and forcing me to listen to it) but i still read a lot of music sites written by snobbish indie 20-somethings and it was on one of these sites that i came across the term "rockist", see apparently in the post-post-modern world we need a term for everything and this term was coined to describe i dunno? rock music? but not rock music you might hear on the radio but rock music nonetheless, i believe it actually hearkens back to the old days, you know around 2000 or so when bands like the Strokes and White Stripes were all the rage and the fact that they didn't use like keyboards and shit, of course then we had yet another wave of Detroitacidhousenewwavetechno, drum and bass, fish and chips, all sorts of electronic bleeps and blips and everyone about shot a load in their pants for Kid A and god what kind of losers would play just guitar, bass, drums, vocals? i mean what the fuck? and now of course there are some really good bands out there doing this that are termed "rockist", apparently looked down upon by the indie rock bicycle set or so i'm told, i don't really pay much attention and why i let some wuss music critic half my age toss some term around and why it bothers me i have know idea but since i thought that the music here at the lounge was a bit on the soft and sensitive side lately i thought i'd get all "rockist" and shit, see there are some swell bands out there doing this shit, bands like Girls or Japandroids or The Men or Titus Andronicus, so i figured i'd post one, and hell this is two nights in a row, pretty soon i might just get back into the Wilderness and won't that be exciting for? i don't know me? cheers.

Exciting for me, too!
Also, Japandroids rocks.
"Rockist" is just a douchey term. Period.Sounds like it was coined by a proper twunt.

"japandroids" is a great band name. they get points for that, regardless of what they're playing...

Like.
I wonder what music sites you're reading, I haven't seen "rockist" out there. That's pretty funny. Every generation wants to claim their own new genre. Rockist. What?!

I always hear people using a "rockist" to describe someone that believes the 60's and the 70's were the golden age of punk and rock and can never and will never be repeated, and judge all music to the "standards" of those bands and artists, regardless of relevance. Like comparing Kanye to Clapton and holding the Beatles as the end-all, be-all of musical perfection.
