The Other F Word
For both of my regular readers it may come as a shock that i am not the most conventional of fathers, yeah i know it's hard to believe, i mean if you breeze through the archives and check out the Wilderness Years one would think that i've spent most of my life attending Christian youth groups and singing hymns to the great almighty... or maybe not, and see moving out to the burbs so the boyos could attend some high quality schools and shit has been a bit of a culture shock to the old man but as we come up on the one year anniversary of the big move i'm adjusting, i find the suburbs quite a laugh and for the most part the other parents don't really know what to make off the tall man with the badgers strapped to the side of his face and his Van's and Black Flag baseball cap, it's not surprising, i'm sure the cops know who am but hell that's been the case for most of my adult life...
So i was quite intrigued about this doc when i stumbled upon it by accident, i mean what does one do when you've spent your whole life flipping off the system and telling authority figures to get fucked when suddenly you become the authority figure? This gives you a bit of insight into what happens when us punk rock/ hardcore/ alterna-kids grow up and attempt to find some semblance of balance in who we are and maybe what we are trying to be, at times it's fucking hilarious and at times it's fucking heartbreaking but i advise anyone who's interested to watch it cuz it was quite entertaining and enlightening...
and for the record i'm all about what Flea says in the clip in the trailer, i was a fucking maniac, a fucking accident waiting to happen for a long time, from the early days gobbling blotter to the latter days of funding whole towns in Bolivia and single-handedly keeping certain breweries and distilleries afloat, nihilist was most likely an understatement in my younger days but then you know, shit changes and the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town and one day you wake up to the patter of little feet and these little blue eyes staring at you at you're like "this is fucking awesome."

Aaaaaamen.
best part of becoming a grown up was breeding... forced me to get out of my ridiculously self-absorbed bubble, and work hard to grow some good humans...
I am so going to see that film when it hits Australia
i <3 flea...
Oh, I've gotta see this. Looks really good. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what kind of previous life you had--what your occupation or taste--derelict or or doctor, nothing, nothing prepares you for parenthood. You wing it, and hope you pass the grade. The little voice usually tells you if you're on the right track, and stay on that train, you don't get off and you don't look back.
I'm a better person for my babes. No question.
Ok, just watched it, and feel like it should have come with a warning label: Will cry buckets of tears, especially at the end, depending on how much boxed wine you may have had beforehand. Seriously, uncontrolled sobbing (dead children, wtf?) and riesling, over here.
