It's the end of the world as we know it and i feel fine

I saw today that R.E.M. broke up and while i'm not a huge fan of this band as a child of 80's alternative they were pretty hard to escape, this song here is my favorite R.E.M. song and i'd most likely say Document is my favorite album, it's also the first one i bought though i remember hearing things off their early records on Cleveland State University's radio station back when i was a wide eyed boy sitting in my room and dreaming of Molly Ringwald, of course you might be surprised that Automatic for the People is a close second in the album dept. and it was after that record that i didn't really listen to them anymore, yet i still couldn't avoid that pang of nostalgia at seeing them call it quits, it's a part of my youth that is no more and it hearkens back to an era of my silly little life that i look on with much fondness, before the wars of divorce and adulthood would kick whatever joy i had left in me to the curb and i realized how absolute shit the world is, but back then Document was owned on cassette and sat on shelve above my bed along with the Smiths and New Order and the Psychedelic Furs and old punk tapes and i would own and lose and re-own many of REM's records and today i don't own either of my favorites but i do own Murmur and Reckoning and Fables of the Reconstruction cuz that's what all the hipsters own right? so good-bye REM all i have to say is birthday party cheesecake jellybean boom.

Bands don't split up any more. Don't believe the hype.

And they've been shit for years.

Automatic for the People-1992, i haven't listened to them for years, i bought that album living in a dorm room where i drank so much i used to blackout on a regular basis, melacholic nostagia, brother.

Michael Stipe has been solo and collaborating for so long....i didn't realize R.E.M. was still a band. (let alone...break up)

Maybe when the reunion tour hits in 10 years....it'll kick off at Sesame Street.

I like Automatic for the People too. You ridiculed me for owning it on CD once.

Hopefully U2 will fuck off too soon.

Hahaha - I love Gulfboot!
And yes - this break -up had zero effect on me. I share Gulfboot's sentiments regarding U2, though.

No one, i mean no one is as fucking cool and hip as me... maybe someday the rest of the world will be as informed as i on the most irrelevent of events but until then i will keep everyone posted... now let's drink some Kool-Aid.

Jayne- if you were a teenage male between the years 1985-88, Molly Ringwald was the hip, caring everygirl that was the desire of boys who listened to the Smiths to much and read bad poetry (of course what other kind of poetry is there really?), she reminded us shy freshman/sophomores in high school that there were cool girls out there we could date, not the prom queen but the girl in the glasses in the back of the library reading Rimbaud, doodling Siouxsie and the Banshees on her notebook while humming the Just Like Heaven by the Cure softly to herself.
