Women's History Month Vol. 4 As it is, When it was

When i was a kid i used to sit up on sunday nights and watch 120 Minutes on MTV and because i had an over-active imagination and watched to many John Hughes films over and over as i sat there in the dark and watched the television flicker i'd daydream, usually about a girl who's dad owned a morgue, a girl who had dark hair and dark eyes and refused to acknowledge my existence, i'd wait for those songs that made me feel hurt and longing and what i thought was love, with images to match, this song and video came out a few months ago but damn if it doesn't make me think i'm 17 and staying up late, curled up on the couch in the quietness of the suburbs, dreaming...

I, too, wished for the dark, mysterious crazies when I was 17. But all I ever seemed to attract were lonely Catholic girls who listened to Barry Manilow albums.

I had a thing for basically any guy that was nice to me with clean teeth and a deep laugh. I fantasized that he would be either (a) funnier than me, or (b) smarter than me, but not both, and that he was shamelessly obsessed with one thing other than movies, because that's my turf. And that he would never, ever, ever try to tell me I should or shouldn't do something because I'm a girl.

You would be surprised how few guys fit that.

120 Minutes! Man, I loved that show.
Also, I JUST read the other day that they're bringing it back - on actual MTV, too.

Anyway, it's nice to hear that guys were as stupid as me back in the day. Well, not stupid, but you know what I mean. :)

I watched the film clip before reading your words. It reminded me so much of being a hippie pregnant teenage flower child, madly in love with my musician boyfriend with long hair and an irresponsible lifestyle.

Fond memories

the clip made me realize just how impenetrable the fortreses are around me. i can't remember the last time i let someone hold me... except inside my head.

UB- certain Catlick girls have their advantages, you just had to find the right ones.

Rassles- you know i've got a nice smile with a deep laugh and am obsessed with books and music, i think i may fit that bill. wink wink.

Sybil- i'm what society would call a hopeless romantic, a dreamer and a horrible fucking cynic all rolled into one. and yes i know what you mean.

Nurse- i'd expect nothing less, glad i could help walk you down memory lane.

Daisy- you know i've been called the world's best hugger... though i'm gonna leave the whole penetrating fortresses thing alone, lol.

"staying up late, curled up on the couch in the quietness of the suburbs, dreaming..." Yep, that's pretty much what goes on here. There's always hope, always dreams, even in the suburbs. ;)
